As we approach the end of the school year I wish to thank children, staff and parents for all of your hard work and kindness throughout the past year.
I am delighted to inform you that the Department has approved funding for the construction of two new classrooms. This project is at the tendering stage at present. We look forward to progress in this area and we will keep you posted.
Sports day will be held on Tuesday June 19th, weather permitting. Our day will start at 9:20am and finish at 2:00pm and 3:00pm as normal. Junior Infants – 2nd class will be based in the school grounds. 3rd – 6th will be based in Bective GFC, starting at 10:00am. All classes from Junior Infants to 6th class will be divided into four teams. Each team will wear a different coloured t-shirt. Children have been informed by their teacher of their team colour. Parents are very welcome to attend.
Congratulations to Ella McMullan on winning a beautiful bicycle in the Sponsored Walk Draw! Enjoy and well done! A big thank you to all our pupils, parents, teachers, Bective G.A.A., community representatives, the Gardaí and the Order of Malta for participating in our sponsored school walk. It was a great success and has raised €4,320. This will go towards new classroom furniture and maths equipment for your children.
Ms. O’ Brien and a group of 5th Class girls are organising a bake sale in aid of Nurture Africa. Ms O’Brien will be travelling to Uganda over the summer to work on school, health & outreach projects. These projects exist to provide access to education & healthcare services to orphans & vulnerable children in Uganda The bake sale will take place on the Monday 25th of June. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to Brooke Doyle in Ms. Shaw’s Second Class who was honoured at a major awards ceremony in The Science Gallery, Dublin recently for her entry in the Sightsavers Junior Painter Competition 2018. She impressed the judging panel with her creation titled ‘Put Us In The Picture.‘ Well done Brooke we are all very proud of you.
The girls’ football team have played a lot of matches since Easter. They performed admirably in all our Cumann na mBunscol matches and did the school proud over the past few months. Our Monday evening training in Bective has just concluded and will resume in the new school year.
The boys’ team played all their games in Division 1 during April but unfortunately didn’t progress from the group stages. However, over the past few weeks we were fortunate to have two of our 6th class boys represent the school at Cumann na mBunscol activities.
Ben Sherlock represented the school in the Cumann na mBunscol, Coiste na Mí recently where he took part in an intercounty blitz in Darvey, Co Louth. Boys in 6th class from schools around the county made up the panel which competed against other county teams.
The girls’ Camogie team are involved in the in-school hurling blitz at the moment. The girls are getting lots of practice in, and no doubt will be well ready to represent the school when the Cumann na mBuscol Camogie League begins in mid- September.
Mr Mullin’s hurling league has been generating great excitement over the past few weeks. Ten teams are participating and are nearly at the knockout stages. Best of luck to all involved.
The school attended The Meath Track & Field Event on June 16th in Claremont Stadium. Congratulations to all who participated. Well done to Isabella Mallon who came second in the 800m.
Zoe Shakespeare won the Leinster cycling time trial under 12.
Cormac Gorman and the Meath B team won the Badminton Division 2 in Leinster.
Congratulations to Isabelle Kinsella (6th) who was selected to play for the Meath U12 football team. Isabelle also represented our school on the Meath Cumann na mBunscol Camogie team.
Congratulations to Cian Egan who represented our school in the Cumann na mBunscol mini-sevens team which played at half time during the Meath v Longford game recently.
Congratulations to Ms McGarrigle on the birth of a beautiful baby girl. We wish her all the best during the weeks, months and years ahead!
At the moment, we have 27 jumpers and 25 coats in Lost Property. They are in two boxes in the hall and you can check before or after school if you are missing something. It would help enormously if you would please ensure clothing is named next year.
Congratulations to 6th class pupils who were confirmed on Saturday 26th of May. They have generously donated €170 to Light it Up Gold and €247 to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin
The last of our school tours took place today with Junior infants going to Kiltale Farm. Throughout May and June all classes had a day out at the following venues.

Fourth Class – Navan Adventure Centre
Fifth Class – Victorian Escapades, Mullingar

Sixth class graduation will take place on Thursday 28th June at 5pm in
St Mary’s Church. We wish all our 6th class pupils every success in secondary school and look forward to seeing everybody else back in September.
